Can You Cut your Grocery Budget in 90 Days? By Clair Boone July 09, 2010 | 11:12 AM - submitted by steven I've never been a fan of exercise. I've never really played sports and the thought of waking myself up an hour earlier to run on a treadmill doesn't exactly fill me with feelings of delight. That is until the beginning of this year and I decided to take a more drastic approach. A friend talked me into doing The Shred with Jillian Michaels and here's what I love: It takes 27 minutes. Exactly, I've timed it! And it gives great results because it's intense. It's perfect for a non-workout kinda gal like me....more |

Homestead Quilts in Bethel By Gretchen Cosgrove June 24, 2010 | 09:03 AM - submitted by yournews I would just like to tell you of a wonderful treasure I found in Bethel. My Girl Scout troop's theme this year was community service and giving back to the community. I was looking for things for them to do. Someone told me about Homestead Quilts, a fabric shop located at 101 Elizabeth Street in Bethel. (www.homesteadquilts.com) I went in and met with the owner Vivian Hultgren. We decided to have the girls make pillowcases for a local shelter for women and children. My troop of 10 girls are 11 years old. They had done very little sewing on a sewing machine but Vivian walked them through every step. Within five hours, the girls had sewn ten beautiful, colorful, happy pillowcases to donate to the shelter. We had the best time learning to make pillowcases and looking at all the beautiful fabrics in the store. What a wonderful experience for my girls and the shelter loved receiving the pillowcases. And there's more. Every Thursday, a group of women come to this store to sew for charity to make pillowcases and quilts for cancer patients and shelters, and dresses and shorts for children's charities. Besides letting the volunteers use her store and sewing machines, Vivian supplies some of the fabrics, threads and fillings for these projects. When you walk in you feel welcome. What a wonderful store. This is what community is all about....more |
